From Surviving to Thriving: How DBT Empowers Black Women and Queer Communities to Heal Trauma

At the heart of our indie publishing house is a commitment to liberation—creative, emotional, and psychological. We don’t just publish stories; we create space for healing, reclamation, and transformation. That’s why we’re proud to offer a free Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) workbook—a tool we believe is especially powerful for Black women and queer folks navigating the complex terrain of trauma and survival.

Why DBT?

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a therapeutic approach rooted in mindfulness, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance. Originally developed for people experiencing intense emotional pain, DBT has since become a lifeline for many navigating trauma, identity-based stress, and mental health challenges that traditional systems often overlook or invalidate.

For Black women and queer communities, DBT offers something essential: a practical, affirming path from chaos to clarity.

DBT Is Liberation Work

Black women and queer folks live at the intersection of multiple oppressions—racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, classism—and are often expected to be strong without support, to be resilient without rest. Traditional mental health resources are not always accessible, let alone culturally competent.

DBT breaks that cycle by teaching us to name our emotions, to regulate them without shame, and to survive moments of deep distress with tools instead of trauma responses.

But it doesn’t stop at survival.

DBT helps us learn how to thrive—how to create boundaries, build healthy relationships, and reclaim agency over our own nervous systems. It's a practice of radical self-tending in a world that often demands our suffering.

A Free Resource Rooted in Equity

Healing should not be a luxury.

As an indie publishing house that centers marginalized voices, we know the power of storytelling—but we also know that sometimes, before you can write your story, you have to learn how to stay present in your body. You have to survive the next panic attack. You have to stop spiraling. You have to be able to breathe.

That’s why we created and offer this free DBT workbook—to put accessible, trauma-informed tools into the hands of those who are too often excluded from the wellness industrial complex. Whether you're navigating generational trauma, gender dysphoria, grief, or burnout, this workbook is a self-paced entry point to emotional stability and growth.

It’s our way of saying: we see you. You are not too much. You are not alone. You are worthy of healing.

From Surviving to Thriving

Healing isn’t linear, and it isn’t easy. But with the right tools and support, it is possible.

DBT doesn’t erase the trauma—but it helps us move through it. It helps us make space for joy, for rest, for creativity. It gives us a roadmap out of crisis and into coherence.

This workbook is just one offering—but it’s a beginning. A soft place to land. A page to turn.

Download the FREE DBT workbook, and let it be a small act of resistance, of care, of reclaiming your story on your own terms.
